- What is KnowledgeTreeLive?
- KnowledgeTreeLive is a hosted, on-demand edition of the KnowledgeTree Document Management Software. You don't need your own infrastructure to manage your documents, merely sign-up for our service and immediately start to manage, collaborate and secure your documents.
- Is there a free edition of KnowledgeTreeLive?
- KnowledgeTreeLive is available in two editions: KnowledgeTreeLive Free! and KnowledgeTreeLive Premium.
KnowledgeTreeLive Free! has a 3 user limit, a 1GB storage limit, and is offered without support. KnowledgeTreeLive Premium costs US$15 per user, boasts no user limit, offers 10GB storage per user and 1 business day priority support (with unlimited support cases). - How do I sign up? How do I upgrade to KnowledgeTreeLive Premium?
- Sign-up to automatically get access to your KnowledgeTreeLive Free! Account or simply upgrade to KnowledgeTreeLive Premium from within your account if you require more users, storage space, or need priority support.
- Is our data backed up in case of an emergency?
- We store your data on the Amazon S3 storage service, a massive fault-tolerant storage service from ecommerce leaders, Amazon.com. We make a nightly copy of this data into a secondary S3 storage area and can perform full backup recovery in the event of a system-wide emergency. The Amazon S3 service fully redundant so even if one disk or server fails nothing will be lost and the system will not go down.
- Is the KnowledgeTreeLive service reliable, secure and confidential? Is our data safe? Where is our data stored?
- We take all reasonable precautions to keep your information safe and secure. Our state-of-the-art highly-scalable and redundant server cluster is hosted within the Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud, a web-scale computing environment from the leader in online commerce, Amazon.com. We also use Amazon's S3 storage technology to store your uploaded documents.
- How much does KnowledgeTreeLive cost?
- KnowledgeTreeLive Premium costs US$15 per user per month. Subscription to the service is via credit card and you are billed monthly for the number of users you have subscribed for in that month. Sign-up for a KnowledgeTreeLive Free! Account if you only require a 3 user account.
- Is there a minimum number of users that I need to purchase?
- Yes, the minimum KnowledgeTreeLive Premium account size is 4 users. User Credits needn't be utilized immediately and can be allocated when you need them.
- How many users can I create within my account?
- There is no limit to the number of users that you may create within your KnowledgeTreeLive Premium Account, provided you have an adequate number of user credits. You can purchase user credits from within your KnowledgeTreeLive Account.
- How much storage space is provided with a KnowledgeTreeLive subscription?
- KnowledgeTreeLive Premium subscribers will have access to 10GB per user account that has been purchased.
KnowledgeTreeLive Free! subscribers will have access to 1GB per user account (3GB in total) - How do I access support for KnowledgeTreeLive?
- Support is only available for KnowledgeTreeLive Premium customers. KnowledgeTreeLive Free! offers no support.
KnowledgeTreeLive Premium subscribers may create support tickets within the KnowledgeTreeLive application. Once logged, your support tickets are handled by our support engineers. You may review the status of the tickets from within the KnowledgeTreeLive application. You will also receive emails notifying you of the status of your support tickets. - Where can I find documentation for KnowledgeTreeLive?
- You may find user and administration guides on our KnowledgeTree documentation page.
- How do I access the KnowledgeTreeLive Document Management On-demand service once I have signed up?
- Once you have signed up for the hosted KnowledgeTreeLive Document Management Service you will be provided with a web address personalized for your account. You will also be provided with credentials to access the KnowledgeTreeLive service. You will receive an email providing these exact same details. Please keep this email in a safe place!
- What software do I need to get access to KnowledgeTreeLive Document Management On-demand?
- KnowledgeTreeLive is a hosted, web-accessible software service. You will need a modern web-browser and, for the best user experience, a broadband Internet connection.
- Will I be locked in to using the KnowledgeTreeLive Document Management On-demand Service?
- No, you may at any time decide to cancel your subscription and arrange for a backup of your data to be made available to you. This backup may be restored into an appropriate version of our free, on-premise, KnowledgeTree Open Source Edition. You will however no longer have access to our support engineers and managed service.
- Can I migrate from KnowledgeTree Open Source Edition to KnowledgeTreeLive?
- Yes, you may migrate from KnowledgeTree Open Source Edition to our managed KnowledgeTreeLive Document Management On-demand service. Currently this is by arrangement but in future we will be providing tools that you may use to do this.
- Where is KnowledgeTreeLive hosted?
- Our KnowledgeTreeLive Document Management On-demand Service cluster is hosted on Amazon.com's Elastic Compute Cloud, a highly scalable and fault-tolerant virtual computing environment.
Your documents are stored on Amazon.com's Simple Storage Service, a massive, fault-tolerant storage area network service. - Will the KnowledgeTree Tools for Windows work with KnowledgeTreeLive?
- We do not currently support access to KnowledgeTreeLive from the on-premise editions of KnowledgeTree's "Tools for Windows" package.
- Can I install 3rd-party KnowledgeTree Plug-ins?
- No, for security reasons we do not allow the installation of 3rd-party KnowledgeTree plug-ins.
- Are KnowledgeTree Web Services and WebDAV enabled for KnowledgeTreeLive?
- KnowledgeTree's Web Services and WebDAV services are currently not available to KnowledgeTreeLive users.

- What License is KnowledgeTree Open Source Edition Distributed Under?
KnowledgeTree Open Source Edition version 3.5 and onwards is licensed under the GNU GPL version 3. The GNU GPL version 3 is an Open Source Initiative-approved license.
KnowledgeTree Open Source Edition version 3.1 to 3.4 are licensed under the KnowledgeTree Public License.
Earlier versions of KnowledgeTree Open Source were licensed under the GNU General Public License version 2.0.
- Where Can I Learn More About The GPL v3?
- We urge you to familiarize yourself with the GPL v3 by reading the license text. The Free Software Foundation has also got an excellent FAQ on the topic.
- Am I Allowed To Modify KnowledgeTree Open Source Code?
- Yes, you may modify the KnowledgeTree source code. If you convey the resulting application to others you need to do this under the GPL and make all source code of the software (both the original code and your modifications) available under the terms of the GPL.
You would need to comply with the GPL's requirements around retaining the "Appropriate Legal Notices", both in the source code and on the user interface. In the case of KnowledgeTree Community Edition, these are the "Powered by KnowledgeTree" logo, the original copyright notices and any disclaimers. If for technological reasons you are unable to include the "Powered by KnowledgeTree" logo, you should replace it with "Powered by KnowledgeTree" text.
You will need to clearly indicate that the software is a modification of original code and the date the modification was created.
- Do I Own Modifications I Make to KnowledgeTree Open Source Code?
- Yes, you (or your employer) own the copyright to modifications made by you or new code you have created. If you modify code covered by the GPL you may only redistribute the code under the same terms, being the GPL.

- Yes, plugins written for KnowledgeTree using KnowledgeTree's plugin API are part of the "covered work" and need to be released under the GPL.
- Do language packs, skins and other plugins fall under the GPL?
- Yes, language packs, skins and plugins written for KnowledgeTree are part of the KnowledgeTree "covered work" and need to be licensed under the GPL.
- If I integrate my application with KnowledgeTree Open Source, do I need to release it under the GPL?
- Yes, your application would become part of the "covered work" and would need to be released in source code form and licensed under the GPL.
If, however, your application can run independently of KnowledgeTree and integrates with KnowledgeTree via KnowledgeTree's Web Services, the application is not viewed as part of the "covered work" and may therefore be licensed under terms other than the GPL.
- Can I add my proprietary code to KnowledgeTree Open Source code?
- No, not unless you agree to redistribute the source code of your proprietary software under the GPL.
